I’ve been following the developments of socialism in the form of Marxist and Maoist communism and fascism in America for decades, ever since I studied political and social theory and economics in the 1980’s, and have written and posted much on this topic over the years.

Recently, I came across an article, an interview with former FBI agent Larry Grathwohl, published in American Thinker ten years ago, in 2013. Grathwohl had worked as an embedded undercover agent for the FBI inside the radical terrorist group, The Weather Underground. I thought it was important enough to share the article and some of my thoughts on it ten years later.

The push for communism in America is not new. The communist infiltration of our nation has been going on at least since Harvard-educated American journalist, John Reed Reed supported the Soviet takeover of Russia. Reed even briefly took up arms to join the Red Guards in 1918. He hoped for a similar Communist revolution in the United States, and co-founded the Communist Labor Party of America in 1919. He died in Moscow in 1920 and was given a hero’s burial by the Soviet Union, and is one of only three Americans buried near Lenin at the Kremlin Wall.

That mantle to communize America was picked up by other Americans, including Whitaker Chambers and Alger Hiss, who were identified as communist spies for the Soviet Union in the 40’s, and Americans, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, both tried and executed for Soviet espionage in the 50’s.

When the pressure from law enforcement and investigations and congressional hearings got too hot for these communist and radical leftist terrorists, they were forced underground and dropped out of the headlines. They then took shelter in our school systems and became tenured teachers and professors, furthering the communist manifesto by indoctrinating our young people with their radical communist socialist ideology.

To illustrate how far the movement has gotten since then, we need look no farther than the White House and President Barack Obama. Barack Obama’s top mentors and influencers, Frank Marshall Davis, publisher of the largest communist newspaper in Chicago, and Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, both members of the terrorist leftist Weather Underground in the 60’s and 70’s, were active in the Chicago communist movement, interacting with leftist leaders like Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman, as well as members of the Black Panthers.

Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, who were once wanted for terrorism by the FBI, helped to groom Obama in Chicago, just as Obama’s mentor, communist Frank Marshall Davis had done in Hawaii. Obama even dedicated his book to Davis, citing him as a major influence in his young life.

From 1995 to 1999, Obama led an education foundation called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), and remained on the board until 2001. The group poured more than $100 million into the hands of community organizers and radical education activists. He served on the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge with Bill Ayers, who founded the organization and lived several blocks away from the Obamas in Chicago. Obama later claimed he didn’t know Bill Ayers. Nevermind that Ayers and his wife Dohrn kicked off the young Obama’s first run for State Senate with a fundraiser gathering in their Chicago living room. According to FBI Agent Larry Grathwohl, Ayers once said he was willing to slaughter as many as 25 million Americans to implement communist Revolution in America.

Ayers is now sociology professor emeritus at University of Illinois. He continues to write books and give speeches on communist socialism and the radical transformation of America.

These were the influencers who groomed our first Black president. In the person of Barack Obama, the American communist movement had finally succeeded in their crowning achievement: hand-picking and placing one of their own in the White House.

Since the invasion of these “gray ponytails” as I like to call them, our schools and universities have become, in large part, Communist re-education centers, which accounts for the large gap in liberal ideological leanings between college-educated individuals and those with just a high school diploma. This liberal indoctrination has created a confirmation bias among the college-educated, which is in large part why there are so many self-proclaimed “liberals” in America who continue to vote blue, despite the disastrous policies of the left that are openly infringing on our constitutional rights and ruining America.

I can still remember being in Harvard Square numerous times during the 1990’s and seeing the tables set up by Communist Party USA students, there to distribute communist literature and copies of the Communist Manifesto. When I asked what they hoped to achieve, they told me, “The Communist Revolution in America is coming, and it’s already started in case you haven’t noticed!”

It is no surprise that those kids got their radical ideas not only from their often liberal parents, many of whom were in college in the 1960’s, but also from the radical leftist professors at Harvard and BU and other liberal schools in the Boston area.

The masses of students that have been processed through our education system over the past 40 years, many of them indoctrinated with these communist, socialist ideas, have graduated and joined the workforce to take jobs of increasing power and responsibility: in our government, in our schools, as judges, as attorneys and legal professionals, as human resources executives and directors at large corporations, as media and social media executives, as Wall Street and banking executives in the financial system, as doctors and administrators of our public and private healthcare organizations, as union leaders, as entertainment executives in Hollywood and NYC, as journalists at major newspapers and broadcasting companies, and perhaps most importantly, as agents and directors of our national three-letter agencies (see Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and CIA Director John Brennan, and Alejandro Majorcas, Secretary of Homeland Security, appointed by Barack Obama.).

Perhaps all of this explains the what, where, how, why, and who of our nation’s path toward socialism thus far, or what Austrian economist and political philosopher, Friederich Hayek called The Road to Serfdom.

Thanks to the efforts of the people mentioned above and others, we are now well on our way down that road.
