One of the cornerstones of any political campaign is controlling the narrative as it relates to your candidate.
The left is masterful at doing this, and generally they do it with elaborate lies that they start planting months before the election.
They establish fake “news” sites that make outlandish claims about a candidate, and they use “Citizens United” as a crutch to hide behind the lies.
Usually, a postcard campaign from some unheard of “K-Street” (in DC) organization like “Real Americans PAC”, followed with some media.
The Republican’s, supremely convinced of the superiority of their approach to government, don’t do a good job of smearing the other side.
I think it’s sad. Not that political campaigns have come to this, they have always been base.
I think it’s sad that the Republican’s don’t have the same kind of “department of dirty tricks” as the Democrats.
